I AM SASHA SABALUYEV, a contemporary artist who never limited
herself to just one medium. My work moves freely between painting,
sculpture, 3D, neural networks, augmented reality, and virtual reality.
I treat technology not as a tool, but as a language. My art has always
been a field for emotional excavation, where psychoanalysis, hysteria,
desire, and the unconscious collide in raw and unapologetic forms.
Since 2018–2019, alongside my personal psychoanalytic journey, I have
been shaping the concept of ‘hysterical art’ — art that refuses to behave,
art that twists, screams, and dismantles the expected. It’s not just expression.
It’s confrontation. It’s the body talking when the mouth refuses.
My creative DNA was formed long before this. I was raised in a family of inventors and artists. My grandfather,
Yuri Bokov, was not only a painter but also a machine designer who held over forty patents. He taught me that
materials are there to be challenged, not obeyed. I didn’t just learn to draw from him — I learned to invent. My
mother took this further into the world of industrial design and large-scale kinetic advertising structures. My
father, a patent-holding dental implant inventor and philosopher, injected his obsession with systems, symbols,
and language into my bloodstream.
This is why my practice never fit neatly into a box. I have designed magazine covers. I have created metalworks
starting from raw sheets, transforming the industrial into the personal. I have designed costumes — not just as
fashion, but as second skins for bodies in crisis and desire.
My work has crossed borders and disciplines, with exhibitions at the 59th Venice Biennale (2022), EXPO Dubai
2020 (2021), and galleries across Italy, USA, Dubai, and Israel. One of my digital projects was featured in a British
contemporary art publication edited by Edward Lucie-Smith. I have worked in stage design, created installations
for fashion shows, and was part of a residency at San Girolamo in Italy — always looking for ways to fuse the raw
physical with the ghostly digital.
My solo exhibition, ‘Echoes of Hystericus: Depictions of Ancient Sculptures’, is currently on display at Clark County
Library (Las Vegas, USA). This project dissects and reconstructs the aesthetics of ancient sculpture, filtering it
through the gaze of hysteria, fractured memory, and the impossible body.
